How to Slow Your Heart Rate Down


Maintaining a high heart rate outside of exercise can be stressful, painful and potentially damaging to your system. If your doctor determines that this is due to stress and not to an underlying, cardiovascular, health condition -- you will want to practice lowering your heart rate.

Steps

Practice these techniques often. It becomes easier with time, and your heart will respond more quickly.


If your heart is racing and you feel unusually uncomfortable, call to help line or get immediate medical attention. Do the same if your heart is continually skipping beats. While waiting for the paramedics, follow those directions:
Consult your doctor about your heart.
Make sure there is no other condition present.
Do not use coldwater to slow down your heart rate.
